Meres & Mosses Month Grand Finale
Wood Lane Nature Reserve
Family fun day
Saturday 1st September 10am- 4pm
Numerous activities will be held at Wood Lane Nature Reserve on Saturday
1st September at the grand finale to Meres and Mosses Month arranged
by Shropshire Wildlife Trust.
In a day which offers something for all ages, there will be a staging
of a puppet show, the Ugly Bugs Ball, with Mr Happity and Mrs Giggles;
live music from the Weavils and the Caribbean Sunshine steel band
and lots of workshops and displays to enjoy.
People will be able to have a go at willow weaving, wood
carving and lantern making; discover the favourite food of barn
owls by dissecting
their pellets, make a mini-hotel for ladybirds, join trailer tours
of Tudor Griffiths’ quarry and take part in a procession around
the nature reserve in the company of a 30-foot long caterpillar and
its 10-foot friend.
This is also an excellent chance to discover the talking rocks outside
Shelduck hide, which tell the tale of their Ice Age journey from Scotland,
Ireland and Wales.
A barbeque is being provided by Fordhall Farm.
Entry to this event is free.
Wood Lane Nature Reserve has been created over the last decade
from a former sand and gravel extraction site. It is now one of
Shropshire’s
most bird-rich wetlands with more than 170 birds recorded so far.
The Grand Finale has been sponsored by Tudor Griffiths Group and
is part of the Meres and Mosses Month festival, supported by Leader
+.
